Unique Local Culture:

    Jiuyishan (Jiuyi Mountain) is located at 30 kilometers south of the seat of Ningyuan County and covers an area of 200 square kilometers. According to historical records, Emperor Shun on his south tour passed away and was buried here. Up to now, here preserves the only important historic sites such as Emperor Shun’s Mausoleum and sacrifice steles from different dynasties. Since the Xia Dynasty, different dynasties had sent official here to offer sacrifice or erected platforms for remote sacrifice. In Emperor Shun’s Mausoleum, more than 20 sacrifice steles set up by the emperors of different dynasties and the local officials taking office in Yongzhou have been kept intact.


    The contemporary great man Mao Zedong highly eulogized Jiuyishan and wrote the brillian verses that read: “Over the Jiuyi Mountain fly the white clouds, and with the wind descend the Emperor’s children onto the green hills.”
