It was formerly known as Hongye Pavilion. The typical landscape “Aiwan Pavilion” (Loving Dusk Pavilion), located in the Qingfeng Gorge of the Yuelu Mountain, was built in 1792; and its name stemmed from the verses “I stopped the wagon for loving the dusk scenery of the maple woods, and frosted autumn leaves outshine February flowers in redness” in Tour on A Mountain by Du Mu. The words on the inscribed board were written by Mao Zedong. Here is also the place where he and his schoolmates often visited and worked out.
Aiwan Pavilion, Zuiweng Pavilion, Huxin Pavilion on the West Lake and Taoran Pavilion are jointly called four famous pavilions in China.
