    Founded on October 1, 1952, Rongyuan Hotel is a garden-style multifunctional ecological hotel subordinate to the Reception Office of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee. It is mainly in charge of the reception services for the important meetings of the said Provincial Committee and undertakes the task of receiving the important foreign guests, the Party and state leaders and important guests of the Hunan Provincial Committee. It also carries out the operation oriented to the general public and provides such services as guest rooms, dining, meeting, entertainment and business.
    The hotel is densely wooded inside and immersed under great shade all the year round. Surrounded by water on three sides, it presents an atmosphere of tranquility and elegance and has been admirably dubbed as the “Diaoyutai” of Hunan. In the early 20th century, it used to the private garden of the political leaders of Hunan Province. Since the 1950s, it has become the place for accommodating the Party and state leaders and the foreign guests and it is the designated unit of Hunan Province and Changsha City for holding the meetings of Classes I, II and III.
    Various famous Hunan dishes, which have been constantly developing for decades, have come from the hands of several generations of cooking masters of Rongyuan, and the first cookbook that has been praised as the “cradle of Hunan cuisine” came from Rongyuan. Since 1980s, Rongyuan has successively fostered six “masters of Hunan cuisine” and “Chinese cooking masters”.
In 1997, “Stinky Tofu”, “Sisters Rice Balls” and “Eight-Treasure Fruit Rice” were honored as China’s famous and high-quality snacks. The “Mao Family’s Pork Braised in Brown Sauce” and “Stinky Tofu” are cooked with secret recipe and far better than those sold on market stalls. In December 2001, Rongyuan Hotel was appraised by China Cuisine Association as “China’s Famous Catering Restaurant”; in 2002, it was appraised by Hunan Afforestation Committee as a “garden-style unit”; and also in 2002, it was honored as “National Green Catering Enterprise” by China Cuisine Association and National Organizing Committee of Catering Greening Consumption Project.
