Shaoshao is the hometown to the great leader Mao Zedong, China’s famous revolutionary commemorative place and China’s key scenic and historic interest area. As a county-level city directly under Hunan Provincial Government, it is located at 27.9° N and 112.5° E and covers a land area of 210.38 square kilometers. Situated in the center of Hunan, Shaoshan has an area of 210 square kilometers. Focusing on such cultural landscapes as Former Residence of Mao Zedong, Bronze Statue of Mao Zedong, Mao Zedong Memorial, Mao Zedong’s Relics Hall, Mao Zedong’s Poem Stele Forest and Mao Zedong Memorial Park and based on such natural landscapes as Shao Peak, Dripping Cave and Black Stone Village, Shaoshan has 7 scenic areas with 82 scenic spots. Shaoshan is the place where Comrade Mao Zedong lived, studied, labored and went in for revolutionary work when he was young. “Shao” is the name of music during the times of Yu and Shun. It was told that Shun played the music of Shao here when making his south tour and Shaoshan was thus named.
